Description:Membranes control the exchange of materials with the cell''s surroundings and divide the interior of the cell into different compartments, such as the golgi apparatus or the endoplasmic reticulum, where specific chemical reactions take place. The basic characteristics of membranes and their functions are explained in detail by computer animations and both 2D and 3D graphics. Interactive laboratory experiments lead to the indepth knowledge about the general composition of membranes. You measure the diffusion potential of cells and get information on processes such as diffusion, osmosis and volume regulation. Special electron-, light- and lasermicroscopic techniques are used to illustrate the dynamic nature of membrane organisation within cells.
